Researchers at Harvard SEAS have designed the first on-chip metamaterial with a refractive index of zero, allowing the phase of light to travel infinitely fast. This breakthrough will make it easier to manipulate light at the nanoscale and integrate optical connections into telecommunications systems and computers, enhancing or replacing electronic devices.
